Trust me, grooming a Labradoodle is not that difficult at all. They require little but regular grooming to remove tangles, mats, and knots because if a labradoodle has not provided grooming, its coat will get shaved.

Most of the time, people think that the labradoodle is not shedding and they don’t need grooming, but all dog breeds need grooming. The same goes with the Labradoodles. They may require less maintenance but must.

For grooming, you can take help from a professional groomer, or you can do this by yourself, and we are hopeful this guide will help you answer all your queries.

Tips for Labradoodle Grooming:

Before our main discussion, let’s have some tips for labradoodle grooming that will make your grooming process easier. Especially if you are a first-time owner or grooming your dog for the first time, these tips are highly beneficial.

  • Give a quick bath to your pup before giving any grooming session. It will work as an early grooming technique and help your dog get used to the grooming process.
  • Brush the fur a few times a week to remove mats and tangles.
  • Try to keep their coat length shorter. The longer the length, the more care he will need.
  • Get ready with lots of treats to help him stay for a long time.
  • Use familiar words with your dog during grooming, like “good boy” or call him by his name.

Grooming a dog is a time-consuming process, and with the help of these few tips, you will create ease in that whole session.

Can You Groom a Labradoodle at Home?

Your first-ever concern before starting labradoodle grooming is can I groom my labradoodle at home? Right! So for this, we can say yes but only when; when you have taken the right tools in your hand.

And if we are saying yes, it does not mean you can do the whole grooming by yourself, sometimes you must take help from a professional groomer and don’t hesitate to contact them anytime.

In fact, grooming your dog at home is a great bonding experience because it will be a perfect time to make friends with your dog. That’s why early grooming is always encouraged.

While grooming your dog at home, remember that you will not get a professional look, but with practice and time, you will love it.

Labradoodle grooming guide:

I know you are super excited to learn about the great grooming of your labradoodle. So despite beating about the bush, let’s start our labradoodle grooming guide.

You can groom your dog with the help of these simple and easy steps:

(STEP 1) Gather grooming tools:

Gathering the right grooming tool in your hand will make your grooming process easier and help you achieve the desired look without hurting your furry friend.

Grooming tools are a one-time cost, so you should only use quality tools.

Here is the list of some must-have tools:

  1. Slicker brush
  2. Hair clipper
  3. Dog shampoo and Conditiioner
  4. Grooming scissors
  5. cutting shears
  6. dog nail grinder or clipper
  7. Grooming table
  8. quick dry towels

(STEP 2) Start with Brushing:

After getting tools, the next important step is to start brushing your dog.

Well, we recommend brushing as he joins the family because by brushing, your dog will get used to it and will not overreact during grooming time.

And for this, you can….

  • Use a good brush or a demating comb.
  • Take a little part of their coat and brush them by parts.
  • Where you feel any tangles, remove them or cut them with scissors.

Fact: An adult coat must be brushed multiple times compared to the pup.

(STEP 3) Bathing:

Now it’s time to bathe your dog; for this, you must be careful not to use a human shampoo because it can be toxic for your dog.

And for this, you can…

  • Wet his body fully.
  • Then use a dog shampoo and a conditioner to clean his hair.
  • Try to avoid the eyes and ear parts.
  • Wash the coat wisely and make sure there should be no shampoo left over in the body.

After bathing, dry out your furry friend’s fur with the help of a quick-dry towel.

(STEP 4) Nail trimming:

Step four is to trim your companion nail; for this, you can utilize a nail grinder or a clipper.

Well! This task could be daunting, and your dog can also panic. If he is really panicking, consult your dog groomer right away.

Cutting your dog’s nail using a nail grinder is the best option because it doesn’t cut the nail too short, and he will not hurt.

(STEP 5) Hair trimming:

Wait, Wait! Don’t cut your companion’s hair right away.

Select a hairstyle first and then trim it professionally. There are different haircuts you can try, but poodle owners usually prefer to give a teddy bear cut.

For a quick guide on hair trimming, we can say…

  • Choose a haircut
  • Cut hair from his eyes and ensure he is not deprived of sightseeing.
  • After that, you can create bangs before his eyes for a perfect look.
  • In the end, you should say no to longer ears.

It would never be a good idea to stick to one hairstyle; try different hairstyles for every season.

(STEP 6) Teeth cleaning:

You might not even think to avoid teeth cleaning as it is equally important to clean his teeth as it is in humans. And for this, you can use a toothbrush for a perfect cleaning.

Remember, your dog will not love this, and you should be very careful. Most of the time, we recommend cleaning his teeth with a professional groomer.

As we have said, you can’t do the whole grooming by yourself, and teeth cleaning, and hair trimming is one of them.

(STEP 7) Finishing touches:

Congrats, you did it, and now it’s time to give some finishing touches.

In the end, you can use a slicker brush to give a perfect look and ensure there are no mats and tangles left over in the body.

Don’t forget to appreciate your dog as he shows calmness in this long process.

Labradoodle Grooming Cost

Ughhhh! I can understand. After reading this, you might want to know what it will cost if you will get this from a professional.

To answer your question, I can only say that it will cost you around $45 to 100.

And after grooming, if you are picking up your dog from a groomer and he looks too cute that you can’t even take your eyes off, then you must consider tipping your groomer.

Grooming your dog at home will cost you only once, which will be the cost of tools that will stay with you for years.

How Often Should You Groom a Labradoodle?

After reading this whole labradoodle grooming guide, your next concern would be how often you should groom a labradoodle.

So it’s time to break the ice, and for this, all I can say is that your companion will require grooming every 3 months. And If he has a high shedding coat, he will need more frequent brushing than others.

You know what? As the pup grows up, his coat will be transformed into an adult coat from a short one, and this will be the time to decide who will groom you or a professional groomer.

To Up Wrap – Labradoodle Grooming Guide

I’m sure you must have got the answer to all your questions. In the end, before giving any haircut to your pup, you must understand the coat type, hairstyle choices, and available hairstyle choices.

Note: Labradoodle get shaved every year 2 to 3 times and sometimes you have to give a shaved look just becuase it is recommended by a Groomer. So if you want to know is it ok to give a shaved look or not give it a read.

Giving a professional grooming session might be expensive. That’s why we recommend doing it at home, but you can’t do the whole grooming yourself. You must have to consult your groomer at any point.

We have tried to answer every possible question, and if there is any answer left over in your mind must write it in the comment section. We will try to respond to you there.

Till next!
